LD2460 Upgrade

This guide applies only to UltimateSensor Mini v2 fitted with the optional HLK-LD2460 module. Standard Mini v2 hardware ships with LD2412 + LD2450. The LD2460 replaces the LD2450; leave the LD2412 installed.

Before You Start

  • Disconnect USB-C, Ethernet and PoE power before opening the enclosure.
  • Never insert or remove a radar module while the Mini v2 is powered.
  • Use an LD2460 firmware variant only after the LD2460 has been installed.
  • Basic firmware is for hardware without SPS30; Complete firmware includes SPS30.

Install the Module

  1. Place the Mini v2 on a clean surface and open the enclosure at the bottom notch.
  2. Remove the transparent LED light guide and carefully unclip the upper front cover.
  3. Remove the LD2450 module. Leave the LD2412 installed.
  4. Install the LD2460 on its dedicated connection.
  5. Verify 5V, GND, TX and RX against the PCB labels.
  6. Reassemble the enclosure and flash the matching LD2460 Mini v2 firmware through the firmware installer.

Physical Orientation

The LD2460 coordinate axes are fixed to the radar antenna, not to the enclosure. For wall mounting, Y points forward into the room and X must run horizontally from left to right.

The module fits the board only one way.

After powering the device:

  1. Walk straight away from the radar. Y should increase much more than X.
  2. Walk from left to right. X should move clearly through the horizontal range, while Y remains approximately the same.
  3. If the sideways walk barely changes X, contact us through the Support Portal.

Do not solve this by swapping X and Y in Home Assistant. Detection performance and the radar's installation compensation also depend on the physical orientation.

Required Wall Mount

Mini v2 LD2460 firmware uses the radar's side installation mode. Enter the actual mounting values in Home Assistant:

  • Tracking Radar Installation Height: measured from the floor to the radar;
  • Tracking Radar Installation Angle: downward angle from horizontal.

Hi-Link recommends a height of 2.2-2.7 m and a downward angle of 25-40 degrees. A low, nearly horizontal installation is not merely less accurate: it can produce unusable floor coordinates and fail to detect still or lying people.

Configuration and Persistence

Current firmware configures the LD2460 through a serialized transaction:

  1. target reporting is paused;
  2. installation mode, height, angle and detection range are queried;
  3. a value is written only when it differs from the required value;
  4. written settings are read back;
  5. target reporting is always enabled again with function 0x06;
  6. the firmware checks that target reports resume and performs one recovery command if necessary.

The radar stores these settings internally. After a restart, the Home Assistant entities can briefly show unknown while the values are queried, but they should populate automatically. Changing one of these settings can briefly pause target updates while the transaction completes.

Detection Range

The firmware exposes the official LD2460 range controls:

  • Tracking Radar Detection Distance;
  • Tracking Radar Detection Start Angle;
  • Tracking Radar Detection End Angle.

For side mounting, distance is limited to 0.1-6.0 m and angles to -60 through +60 degrees. The start angle must be lower than the end angle. These settings create one hardware detection sector and can suppress an unwanted mirror direction at the radar source. Use Room Designer polygon and exclusion zones for irregular room boundaries.

Coordinate Check

Configure Room Designer only after all of these checks pass:

  1. installation mode reads side;
  2. height and angle show the measured values after a restart;
  3. a forward walk mainly changes Y;
  4. a sideways walk clearly changes X;
  5. a person lying or sitting still remains detected in the intended area.

The LD2460 reports coordinates in 0.1 metre steps. Small jitter and a limited residual error are normal; a collapsed sideways axis is not.

Reflections and Duplicate Targets

Mirrors, metal wardrobes, windows and other large reflective surfaces can create a second stable target or displace coordinates through radar multipath. Temporarily cover the reflective surface during diagnosis. Use the detection angle controls to exclude a complete reflected direction, or a Room Designer exclusion zone for a local area.

Keep the LD2412 installed for normal use. It remains the close-range and still presence fallback in the combined occupancy logic.
