LD2460 Upgrade

This guide applies only to UltimateSensor v2 fitted with the optional HLK-LD2460 module. Standard v2 hardware ships with LD2412 + LD2450. The LD2460 replaces the LD2450; leave the LD2412 and PIR installed.

Safe Installation

  1. Disconnect USB-C, Ethernet and PoE power.
  2. Open the enclosure carefully without pulling sensor or audio wiring.
  3. Remove the LD2450 and leave the LD2412 and PIR installed.
  4. Install the LD2460 on its dedicated connection.
  5. Verify 5V, GND, TX and RX against the PCB labels.
  6. Close the enclosure and flash the matching UltimateSensor v2 LD2460 firmware through the firmware installer.

Never insert or remove the module while the device is powered. Basic firmware is for hardware without SPS30; Complete firmware includes SPS30.

Physical Orientation

The LD2460 axes are fixed to the antenna. For wall mounting, Y points forward into the room and X runs horizontally from left to right. Verify this after installation:

  1. Walk straight away from the radar. Y should increase much more than X.
  2. Walk from left to right. X should change clearly while Y remains roughly stable.
  3. If a sideways walk barely changes X, contact us through the Support Portal.

The module fits the board only one way. Do not compensate by swapping X and Y in Home Assistant.

Wall Mount Configuration

UltimateSensor v2 LD2460 firmware requires side mode. Enter the real values:

  • Tracking Radar Installation Height: floor to radar;
  • Tracking Radar Installation Angle: downward angle from horizontal.

Hi-Link recommends 2.2-2.7 m and 25-40 degrees. A low, nearly horizontal installation can produce unusable floor coordinates and miss still or lying people completely.

Configuration and Reporting Recovery

The current firmware pauses reporting, queries the saved configuration, writes only mismatching values, verifies them and always enables reporting again with function 0x06. It then checks that target reports return and sends one recovery command if required.

The radar stores mode, height, angle and detection range internally. Their Home Assistant entities can briefly show unknown after a restart while they are queried. Changing a value can briefly pause target updates.

Detection Range

The official range controls are exposed as:

  • Tracking Radar Detection Distance;
  • Tracking Radar Detection Start Angle;
  • Tracking Radar Detection End Angle.

For side mounting, use 0.1-6.0 m and -60 through +60 degrees. The start angle must be lower than the end angle. These settings create one hardware sector. Use Room Designer polygon and exclusion zones for irregular boundaries.

Before Configuring Room Designer

Confirm that mode reads side, height and angle survive a restart, a forward walk mainly changes Y, and a sideways walk clearly changes X. Also test a stationary or lying person in the intended area. The LD2460 reports in 0.1 metre steps, so small residual errors are normal.

Reflections

Mirrors, windows and metal furniture can create duplicate targets through radar multipath. Cover the reflective surface temporarily during diagnosis. Use the detection angles to remove a complete direction at the radar source, or use a Room Designer exclusion zone for a local area. LD2412 and PIR remain useful presence fallbacks.
