Installation Guide
This guide walks you through connecting your P1SplitterKit to your smart meter and devices.
Before You Start
You'll Need
- P1SplitterKit
- RJ12 cable (1× included for meter connection)
- Additional RJ12 cables for your devices (not included)
- Optional: USB-C power adapter (if your meter doesn't provide enough power)
Check Your Meter
The P1SplitterKit is compatible with DSMR v4.0, v4.2, and v5.0 smart meters. Look for the P1 port on your meter — it's usually labeled "P1" and uses an RJ12 connector.
Step 1: Connect to Smart Meter
- Locate the P1 port on your smart meter
- Connect the included RJ12 cable to the meter's P1 port
- Connect the other end to the INPUT port on the P1SplitterKit (marked with arrow pointing in)
Tip: The RJ12 connector clicks into place. Pull the tab to release.
Step 2: Select Power Mode
The P1SplitterKit has a power mode switch on the side:
| Switch Position | Power Source | When to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Left | P1 port only | DSMR v5 meters with sufficient power |
| Right | USB-C required | Older meters or many devices connected |
When to Use USB-C Power
Use USB-C power if:
- Your meter is DSMR v4.0 or v4.2
- You're connecting 3+ devices
- Devices aren't receiving data reliably
- The Power LED is dim or flickering
Note: When using USB-C, the splitter draws power from USB-C instead of the P1 port, leaving more power available for your devices.
Step 3: Connect Your Devices
- Connect your devices to any of the 5 OUTPUT ports
- Use standard RJ12 6P6C cables
- The order doesn't matter — all ports are identical
Cable Length Recommendations
| Distance | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Up to 5m | Standard RJ12 cable |
| 5-15m | Quality shielded cable recommended |
| 15m+ | May experience signal issues |
Step 4: Verify Operation
Check the LEDs
| LED | Status | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Power LED | Solid | Power OK (P1 or USB-C) |
| Power LED | Off/Dim | Check power source |
| Data LEDs (1-5) | Flashing | Data being transmitted to that port |
| Data LEDs (1-5) | Off | No device connected or no data request |
Normal Operation
- Power LED should be solid
- Data LEDs flash when connected devices request data
- Most devices request data every 1-10 seconds
Troubleshooting Installation
No Power LED
- Check the power switch position
- If set to P1: Try switching to USB-C mode and connect a USB-C power adapter
- Verify the RJ12 cable is fully inserted into the meter
Data LED Not Flashing
- Verify the device is powered on and configured
- Check the RJ12 cable connection to the device
- Try a different output port
- Try a different RJ12 cable
Device Not Receiving Data
- Check all cable connections
- Verify your device supports DSMR (P1) protocol
- Try connecting the device directly to the meter (bypass splitter) to verify it works
- Switch to USB-C power mode if using P1 power
Installation Examples
Example 1: Two Devices (P1 Power)
Smart Meter P1 → P1SplitterKit → P1MeterKit
→ HomeWizard P1- Power switch: Left (P1)
- USB-C: Not needed
Example 2: Multiple Devices (USB-C Power)
Smart Meter P1 → P1SplitterKit → P1MeterKit
→ WaterP1MeterKit
→ Solar Inverter
→ DSMR Reader- Power switch: Right (USB-C)
- USB-C: Connected to 5V adapter
Next Steps
- Your devices should now receive data from the smart meter
- Configure each device according to its own documentation
- For SmartHomeShop devices, see their respective installation guides
