Voice Assistant Guide

This page is for UltimateSensor Mini v1, which includes a microphone, speaker, media player and voice-assistant support.

Have Mini v2? Mini v2 has no microphone, speaker, media player or local wake word support. Use UltimateSensor Mini v2 for that hardware.

Standard Voice Pipeline

UltimateSensor Mini v1 uses the standard Home Assistant voice pipeline. The device captures the voice command, sends it to the selected Home Assistant assistant pipeline, and plays the response back through its media player.

1. Follow the Home Assistant voice control documentation.
2. Create or select your Home Assistant voice assistant pipeline.
3. Open the UltimateSensor Mini v1 device in Settings -> Devices & services -> ESPHome.
4. Select the Home Assistant assistant pipeline you want to use.

Local Wake Word

Local wake word support for UltimateSensor Mini v1 is included in production firmware 3.0 and newer. The firmware includes the wake words Okay Nabu and Hey Jarvis.

1. Open the firmware page: smarthomeshop.io/en/firmware?product=ultimatesensor-mini.
2. Install the matching Mini v1 Basic or Complete firmware. Devices on version 2.42 or older first need the one-time Version 3.0 USB-C upgrade.
3. Add the device back to Home Assistant if needed.
4. Keep the Enable Voice Assistant switch on. It is on by default.

If the Enable Voice Assistant switch is not visible, update the device to Mini v1 production firmware 3.0 or newer.

Troubleshooting

• Confirm that the Mini v1 hardware has microphone and speaker.
• Check that the media player entity exists.
• Confirm Mini v1 production firmware 3.0 or newer is installed if you want local wake word.
• Check the Enable Voice Assistant switch.
• Verify that Home Assistant voice services are running.
• Check ESPHome logs for audio or voice assistant errors.
