Energy Prices and Contracts

The Energy prices section combines hourly or quarter-hourly market prices with the contract components that apply to your household. This produces a more useful consumer, feed-in and gas price than the bare exchange price alone.

Add an Energy Contract

  1. Open Energy prices, stay on My contracts and choose New contract.
  2. Choose the contract type: dynamic, variable or fixed.
  3. For a dynamic contract, choose a supported supplier: the App applies its mark-ups, taxes and standing charge automatically. For a variable or fixed contract, select the supplier or enter its name and copy the all-in rates from your contract.
  4. Enter the start date. A fixed contract also needs an end date; for dynamic and variable contracts it is optional.
  5. Optionally link the contract to a location, then review the rates and feed-in conditions before saving.

Two active contracts for the same location must not overlap, but a contract may end on the day the next one starts. Keep old periods instead of editing historical prices into a new contract.

Contract Metadata

The contract section also stores optional descriptive details for the App and Home Assistant:

  • supplier from the maintained supplier list, or a manually entered supplier name;
  • energy product name and dynamic, variable or fixed contract type;
  • effective start and optional end date;
  • monthly standing charge;
  • import and feed-in mark-ups per kWh, which a dynamic contract takes from the supplier;
  • a private customer or contract reference.

The private reference remains in your account and is never included in the Energy API. When a listed supplier is selected, the App stores a readable supplier name so Home Assistant does not depend on an internal database ID.

Price Types

  • Market price is the underlying hourly exchange value.
  • Consumer price adds the configured taxes and supplier components.
  • Feed-in price applies the configured compensation or surcharge for exported electricity.
  • Gas price combines the gas market value with the configured contract components.

The exact invoice can still differ because suppliers apply rounding, fixed fees, regional charges or changed tax rules.

Confirmed and Forecast Hours

Confirmed prices are published market values. Tomorrow's prices appear around 15:00. In the Energy API and Home Assistant, predicted hours extend the horizon when confirmed prices are not yet available and are clearly estimates. Do not let a forecast hour trigger a high-risk automation without a fallback.

Market and Comparison

The Market & compare tab uses Dutch market data and supplier rates:

  • the electricity price per hour or quarter, with the cheapest run of hours and a heatmap of recent prices;
  • CBS national averages next to your own rates;
  • What would dynamic have cost you?, which works out what each supported dynamic supplier would have cost over 30 days, 90 days or a year, from your P1MeterKit or WaterP1MeterKit data or your estimated yearly consumption;
  • Full contract analysis, a report with your use per daypart, the fit with a dynamic contract, shift potential and a yearly projection, also as a PDF. The Free plan includes one analysis per 12 months; paid plans have no limit.

Home Assistant

Create a personal API token under Settings > API Tokens, then connect it once in the SmartHomeShop.io panel in Home Assistant. Dynamic prices are available through the price API; cloud device readings, statistics and the SmartHomeShop solar forecast endpoint require Pro or Business access.

Home Assistant can show the supplier, product, contract type and active period returned with the price data. Optional standing charges and kWh mark-ups are numeric euro values; missing values are returned as null.

The Energy API only returns calculated prices when an applicable contract exists. Without one it returns energy_contract_required and no electricity, gas or summary prices.
