Calculation and Monitoring Tools

The Tools section turns measurements and external data into practical estimates. Results are decision support, not technical quotations or guaranteed savings.

Solar Panels and Battery

Use the investment calculator to compare:

  • a first solar installation or additional panels;
  • different panel counts, power, orientation, pitch and shade;
  • solar-only, battery-only or combined scenarios;
  • direct consumption, feed-in, annual savings and payback estimates;
  • outcomes before and after changes to net metering.

The solar calculator needs a location with coordinates. Where possible, the calculation uses your measured P1 profile, which needs at least seven days of hourly data. The estimate mode is available when no suitable P1 meter exists. PVGIS provides location-based long-term solar yield; it does not inspect roof space, structural capacity, local shade, wiring or inverter compatibility.

Home Battery Calculator

The battery calculator simulates hourly charge and discharge against the same consumption and price series. Capacity, power, efficiency, reserve, purchase cost and strategy materially affect the result. Battery wear and future prices remain uncertain.

Live Virtual Battery

On the Home battery tool you can create a live virtual battery for a P1 meter. The App recalculates your stored hourly measurements as if the battery were installed, so you see what it would have saved. You can create one per P1 meter, and it does not control a real installation.

Solar Forecast

The solar forecast uses Forecast.Solar for weather-dependent production. Every user must enter their own Forecast.Solar API key. SmartHomeShop does not share one key between customer installations. Respect the provider interval; repeated manual refreshes can trigger its rate limit.

The normalised solar forecast API is available on Pro and Business. The SmartHomeShop Home Assistant integration does not fetch it itself: it reads the forecast sensor you select in Home Assistant. A stale forecast is marked as such instead of silently being presented as current.

Climate Comfort

Climate Comfort combines available hourly temperature, humidity and air-quality measurements from CeilSense, UltimateSensor and UltimateSensor Mini. CO2 is highlighted as the main ventilation indicator where the device provides it. Missing sensor types do not automatically lower the score.

The result helps identify patterns such as overheating, dry air or insufficient ventilation. It is not a medical diagnosis, building inspection or ventilation certification.
