LED Ring and Buzzer

CeilSense Pro can give signals back to the room with a ring of 16 RGB LEDs and a piezo buzzer. Both do nothing until you use them, with one planned exception: the experimental optical smoke sensing. For spoken messages and music, see Speaker and Voice.

Planned behavior. The firmware for CeilSense Pro is not written yet. This page describes how it is planned to work, and that can still change at release.

LED Ring

The ring has 16 individually addressable WS2812-type RGB LEDs and lights up all around the device. Home Assistant will control it as one light called LED Ring, with color, brightness and effect.

The ring is off by default, so a dark ring does not mean the device has no power.

Do not count on a built-in motion light, night light or CO2 warning. You build these yourself with automations, as shown below.

Effects

The list of effects follows with release firmware, so the examples on this page use color and brightness only.

Control the Ring

Open LED Ring on the device page to set the color and brightness by hand. In a script or automation, use light.turn_on and light.turn_off.

action: light.turn_on
target:
  entity_id: light.ceilsense_pro_led_ring
data:
  rgb_color: [255, 120, 0]
  brightness_pct: 30

Note: Entity IDs can differ per installation, because they start with your device name. Check yours on the device page.

Automation Examples

Soft Night Light

The ring as a dim light when someone walks by at night.

alias: "Night light on"
triggers:
  - trigger: state
    entity_id: binary_sensor.ceilsense_pro_presence
    to: "on"
conditions:
  - condition: time
    after: "23:00:00"
    before: "06:00:00"
actions:
  - action: light.turn_on
    target:
      entity_id: light.ceilsense_pro_led_ring
    data:
      rgb_color: [255, 180, 110]
      brightness_pct: 10
alias: "Night light off"
triggers:
  - trigger: state
    entity_id: binary_sensor.ceilsense_pro_presence
    to: "off"
    for:
      minutes: 1
actions:
  - action: light.turn_off
    target:
      entity_id: light.ceilsense_pro_led_ring

Red Ring on High CO2

alias: "CO2 too high: ring red"
triggers:
  - trigger: numeric_state
    entity_id: sensor.ceilsense_pro_scd41_co2
    above: 1200
    for:
      minutes: 5
actions:
  - action: light.turn_on
    target:
      entity_id: light.ceilsense_pro_led_ring
    data:
      rgb_color: [255, 0, 0]
      brightness_pct: 30
alias: "CO2 back to normal: ring off"
triggers:
  - trigger: numeric_state
    entity_id: sensor.ceilsense_pro_scd41_co2
    below: 800
actions:
  - action: light.turn_off
    target:
      entity_id: light.ceilsense_pro_led_ring

Doorbell Signal

See Usage for a short signal when the doorbell rings.

Heat

LEDs that burn brightly for a long time give off some heat and can slightly affect temperature readings. Use the ring dimmed or briefly.

Buzzer

The piezo buzzer is silent unless you use it. Home Assistant will have a Buzzer Test button that plays a short four-note melody. You will find it under Diagnostic on the device page.

An automation can press the button:

alias: "Timer finished: buzzer"
triggers:
  - trigger: event
    event_type: timer.finished
    event_data:
      entity_id: timer.kitchen
actions:
  - action: button.press
    target:
      entity_id: button.ceilsense_pro_buzzer_test

Further sounds will follow with release firmware.

Signals From the Optical Smoke Sensing

The experimental optical smoke sensing is planned to use the ring and the buzzer by itself: a red strobe on the ring during an alert and, if you turned on Smoke Siren Enabled, a siren on the buzzer. The siren is off by default. This is not a safety function. See Optical Smoke Sensing.
