Quick Start
Pre-release documentation. CeilSense Pro has not been officially released yet. The design, specifications and firmware can still change until release. Check ceilsense.nl for the current planning.
This is the shortest route from box to Home Assistant. The Installation Guide has the full details for the ceiling, the cables and the first start.
Planned behavior. The firmware for CeilSense Pro is not written yet. The steps below show the planned route, and that can still change at release.
Safety: Have mains connections made by a qualified installer and switch the circuit off first. CeilSense Pro is for indoor use only.
What You Need
- CeilSense Pro with your radar configuration
- Power: a USB-C supply (5 V, at least 1 A, not included), a PoE switch or injector (IEEE 802.3af), or a mains connection made by an installer
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network or an Ethernet connection
- Home Assistant
- Firmware that matches your network choice and radar configuration. Firmware and install steps are published at release: see Firmware.
Steps
- Power it on the table. Test the device before it goes into the ceiling. Connect USB-C, or PoE if you use it. The LED ring is off by default, so a dark ring tells you nothing.
- Connect it to your network.
- With WiFi firmware, connect your phone or laptop to the setup network of the device. Its name is published with the firmware. Choose your own 2.4 GHz WiFi network in the captive portal and enter the password.
- With Ethernet firmware, connect the network cable.
- Add it to Home Assistant. Go to Settings > Devices & services. ESPHome devices are discovered automatically: select CeilSense Pro and add it. If it does not appear, see Network Configuration.
- Check the entities. Open the device page.

For recessed mounting, make the Ø 92 mm cut-out, connect your cable and push the sensor in: the spring clips hold it against the ceiling. For surface mounting, fix the mounting plate to the ceiling and pass the cable through. Follow the Installation Guide.
- Tune the radar. With LD2412 + LD2450, empty the room and press
LD2412 Start Dynamic Background Correction. With an LD2460, do the walk test. Both are explained in Calibration. - Set up sound and voice. Test
Speakerand connect Home Assistant Assist. See Speaker and Voice. - Read about the optical smoke sensing. It is experimental and not a safety function, and the siren is off by default. Keep your certified smoke alarms. See Optical Smoke Sensing.
- Build on it. Create your first automation, or add the optional SmartHomeShop.io integration for the Room Designer and the CeilSense card.
