Firmware

Pre-release documentation. WallSense has not been officially released yet. The design, specifications and firmware can still change until release. Check smarthomeshop.io/wallsense/en for the current planning.

WallSense runs ESPHome firmware on its ESP32-C6. The firmware brings the sensors, both radars, touch and the LEDs into Home Assistant.

Current Status

Firmware Status
WiFi, local Test build
Ethernet, with or without PoE Not there yet for the current hardware, will follow with release firmware
Cloud, for the SmartHomeShop app Not there yet
Thread, local Will follow with release firmware

The firmware is not published yet. Firmware files and install steps are published at release.

Local and Cloud

With local firmware, ESPHome brings the entities into Home Assistant and your data stays on your network.

With supported cloud firmware, a device also sends readings to your SmartHomeShop account. WallSense has no cloud firmware yet, see SmartHomeShop App.

WiFi, Ethernet and Thread

WiFi, Ethernet and Thread are separate firmware builds, and WallSense runs one of them at a time. See Network Configuration and Connect via Thread.

Radar Configuration

WallSense has one radar configuration: the LD2412 and the LD2450 together. There is no firmware choice per radar.

The current firmware reads both radars but has no radar settings or zones yet. See Calibration.

Updates

Updates over the air through Home Assistant follow at release.

Flashing Through USB-C

USB-C is for flashing firmware and is not a power option. Flash WallSense before it goes into the wall, with only the USB-C cable connected. You do not need PoE or mains for this. The steps for flashing through USB-C follow at release.

License

The firmware license is announced at release.

Custom Firmware

Because WallSense runs ESPHome, you will be able to change the firmware yourself. Custom or third-party firmware is not covered by warranty, and support can only help with the official firmware. See Warranty and Support.
