Quick Start

Pre-release documentation. WallSense has not been officially released yet. The design, specifications and firmware can still change until release. Check smarthomeshop.io/wallsense/en for the current planning.

This is the shortest route from the box to Home Assistant. The Installation Guide has the full steps and safety notes.

Note: The current firmware is a WiFi test build. Firmware files, install steps and the name of the WiFi setup network are published at release.

  1. Check your back box. WallSense mounts on 60 mm screw centers in a round 60 mm back box. It cannot be rotated, so the box needs a clear view of the area you want to monitor. Check your frame on Frames and Compatibility.
  2. Choose your power. Use PoE over an Ethernet cable, or 110 to 240 V mains. USB-C is only for flashing firmware and is not a power option.
  3. Switch the circuit off. Have mains connections made by a qualified installer. WallSense is for indoor use only.
  4. Fit WallSense. Connect the cable, mount WallSense in the back box and fit your frame. Keep the openings around the housing free, they are for air measurement.
  5. Switch the power on. The rear LEDs stay off at start. A dark front is normal.
  6. Connect to your network. With WiFi firmware, connect your phone to the setup network that WallSense opens and choose your 2.4 GHz WiFi network. With Ethernet firmware, the cable is your network connection. You flash Thread firmware before you mount WallSense, and it then joins your Thread network by itself. See Network Configuration and Connect via Thread.
  7. Add WallSense to Home Assistant. ESPHome devices are discovered automatically. Go to Settings > Devices & services and add the discovered device.
  8. Let the sensors settle. The first CO2 readings after a start are not meaningful, and the temperature in a wall box only says something after hours of stable running.
  9. Start using it. Good first entities are Occupancy, SCD41 CO2 and Touch Button. See Usage for automation examples.
