Troubleshooting

Note: This page describes the current firmware, a WiFi test build. Names and behavior can change until release.

Network and Home Assistant

WallSense Is Not Found in Home Assistant

Cause: WallSense is not on the network, or discovery is blocked between WallSense and Home Assistant.

Fix:

  • Check that WallSense is on the same network or VLAN as Home Assistant.
  • Between VLANs, allow mDNS and port 6053.
  • Look up the IP address in your router and add WallSense manually through the ESPHome integration.

WiFi Setup Network Does Not Appear

Cause: The setup network only appears when no WiFi is configured or when the connection fails. It can also take a moment after power-on.

Fix:

  • Wait a few minutes after power-on.
  • Check whether WallSense is already on your network. Look in the list of connected devices in your router.
  • Try another phone or laptop.

WallSense Is Offline

Cause: No power, a weak WiFi signal, or a changed network.

Fix:

  • Check the power. USB-C is not a power option, in the wall WallSense runs on PoE or mains.
  • If you use Thread, see Troubleshooting Thread.
  • Check WiFi Signal for the last value before it went offline.
  • Did your WiFi name or password change? See When Your Network Changes.
  • If WallSense still responds in Home Assistant, use the Restart button.

Presence

Presence Stays On in an Empty Room

Cause: Something is moving or reflecting in view of the radar, or the LD2412 stays on with high still energy.

Fix:

  1. Check LD2412 Still Energy and LD2412 Moving Energy with the room empty.
  2. Press LD2412 Restart.
  3. Look for reflections and moving objects such as fans, moving curtains and pets.
  4. Check which radar stays on: LD2412 Presence or LD2450 Presence.
  5. If nothing helps, the cause can be the position of the box. See the placement advice.

Tuning gates and timeout will follow with release firmware.

Presence Is Not Detected

Cause: The area is out of range or out of view, or something blocks the radar. Range can be shorter when people sit still.

Fix:

  • Check the live values with someone in the room: LD2412 Presence, LD2450 Presence and LD2450 Target Count.
  • Remember that WallSense cannot be rotated and looks straight into the room. The LD2412 has a field of view of ±75°, the LD2450 ±60°.
  • Remove obstacles from the front of the box.
  • Check how the frame sits around the front, because mounting and the frame affect detection.

Radar Entities Stay Empty

Cause: The firmware does not see the radar module.

Fix: Press Restart. If the entities stay empty, contact support, see Warranty and Support.

Detection Through a Wall

Cause: 24 GHz radar can detect through thin walls and some other materials.

Fix: Build your automation on a zone in Home Assistant instead of on Occupancy, see Zone Around the Sofa. Limiting the radar range will follow with release firmware.

Readings

CO2 Looks Wrong

Cause: The first readings after a start are not meaningful. CO2 can need up to 24 hours to stabilize.

Fix: Give it time. If the reading stays off, ventilate well and use CO2 Manual Calibration, see Calibration. Use the button with care.

Temperature Is Too High

Cause: In a wall box, temperature depends on the installation. Direct sunlight, a nearby heat source, blocked openings or bright LEDs can also raise it.

Fix:

  • Check that the openings around the housing are free.
  • Keep the rear LEDs off or dimmed.
  • Compare after hours of stable running with a reliable reference.
  • Correct the difference with SHT45 Temperature Offset. See Calibration.

Humidity Looks Wrong

Cause: Relative humidity depends on temperature.

Fix: Correct temperature first, then SHT45 Humidity Offset.

SHT45 and SCD41 Show Different Values

Cause: Both report temperature and humidity, with their own corrections.

Fix: Use the SHT45 for climate. It is the primary climate sensor.

VOC or NOx Looks Unstable

Cause: The SGP41 gives relative index values and needs runtime.

Fix: Allow several hours after a start and judge trends, not single values.

Illuminance Does Not Match a Lux Meter

Cause: Illuminance is measured at the wall, and the current firmware has no correction for it.

Fix: Choose your thresholds from what Illuminance shows in your own room.

Touch and LEDs

Touch Does Not Trigger an LED Action

Cause: The timing did not match a gesture. A touch of roughly 0.35 to 0.8 seconds triggers no built-in action.

Fix: Tap briefly, or hold for at least 0.8 seconds. Check Touch Button in Home Assistant to see whether the touch arrives. See Touch Control.

The Rear LEDs Do Not Turn On

Cause: The rear LEDs are off at every start.

Fix: Turn on Rear LED Effects Enabled, choose a scene in Rear LED Scene, or tap the front once.

A Press Does Not Turn the Rear LEDs Off

Cause: A single press follows Rear LED Effects Enabled, not the light itself. If you started a scene with Rear LED Scene or the Rear LED Effects light, that switch is still off, so the first press starts Rainbow.

Fix: Press again. The second press turns the LEDs off.

Rear LED Scene Shows the Wrong Scene

Cause: Rear LED Scene only shows the last choice made in that select. After a restart it shows Rainbow while the LEDs are off.

Fix: Use the Rear LED Effects light to see what the LEDs are doing.

Breathing Blue Is Not Blue

Cause: The effect only changes the brightness and keeps the color the light is set to.

Fix: Set Rear LED Effects to blue. See LED Lighting.

The Front LED Cannot Be Controlled

Cause: The front LED is internal in the current firmware and only gives touch feedback.

Fix: None yet. Using it from Home Assistant is planned.

Ethernet and PoE

Ethernet or PoE Does Not Work

Cause: The current firmware is a WiFi test build. Ethernet firmware for the current hardware is not there yet.

Fix: Wait for the release firmware. See Firmware.

Integration and App

WallSense Is Missing From the SmartHomeShop.io Integration

Cause: WallSense is not yet a product in the integration.

Fix: Use the ESPHome entities. See Home Assistant Integration.

WallSense Is Missing From the App

Cause: WallSense is not yet in the app, and cloud firmware does not exist yet.

Fix: See SmartHomeShop App.
