LED Lighting

WallSense has sixteen RGB LEDs on the back and one RGB status LED in the front. You control the rear LEDs from Home Assistant. The front LED only gives touch feedback for now.

Note: This page describes the current firmware, a WiFi test build. Names and behavior can change until release.

Rear LEDs

The rear LEDs are off at every start. Three entities control them:

Entity Type What it does
Rear LED Effects Light Sets color, brightness and effect from Home Assistant
Rear LED Effects Enabled Switch (config) On starts Rainbow at 65 percent brightness, off turns the LEDs off
Rear LED Scene Select (config) Starts a scene at 35 percent brightness, or turns the LEDs off with Off

You can also control them with the touch surface, see Touch Control.

Rear LED Scene only shows the last choice made in that select. After a restart it shows Rainbow while the LEDs are off, and touch gestures or the Rear LED Effects light do not always update it.

Effects

Effect What you see
Aurora Flow A slow flow of teal, blue and violet
Rainbow A rainbow that moves along the LEDs
Radar Sweep A small group of LEDs that sweeps back and forth
Sparkle LEDs that twinkle at random
Fireworks Sparks in random colors that fade out
Color Wipe LEDs that change color one after the other, in random colors
Breathing Blue The light slowly fades in and out

Breathing Blue only changes the brightness and keeps the color the light is set to. In the current firmware it is only blue when you set the light to blue yourself, see Red When CO2 Is High for how to set a color.

Rear LED Effects offers these seven effects. Rear LED Scene offers the same seven plus Off.

Front LED

The front LED is internal in the current firmware. It only confirms touch gestures with a red pulse and is not a Home Assistant entity. It does not show network status either. Using it for your own status colors from Home Assistant is planned.

Automation Examples

The examples use wallsense as the device name. Entity IDs can differ per installation. Thresholds and times are examples.

effect: "None" stops a running effect, so the color shows.

Heat

LEDs that burn brightly for a long time give off some heat and can slightly affect temperature readings. Use the rear LEDs dimmed or briefly, and keep them off while you compare temperature. See Calibration.
