Hardware Versions

CeilSense V2 is one of three current ceiling sensors: Mini, V2 and Pro. This page compares them, shows what changed since V1 and helps you tell which one you have.

What Changed Since V1

CeilSense V2 keeps the layout of V1, the LED ring that shines down and the three power options. Five things changed:

  1. Ø 74 mm body. The larger body has room for two radars side by side.
  2. More radar choice. LD2412 + LD2450 together, or an LD2460, or an LD6002B.
  3. Built-in buzzer. A piezo buzzer for a sound signal from Home Assistant.
  4. Less installation depth. 41.46 mm instead of 45 mm. With a straight RJ45 plug about 56 mm instead of 60 mm.
  5. Refreshed design. The look is subtly updated. The basis stays a ring of sixteen LEDs shining down.

Three more differences matter when you move from V1:

  • The hole is larger. V1 uses a 68 mm hole and V2 a 76 mm cut-out, so an existing V1 hole is too small.
  • The firmware is different. V1 uses an ESP32-S3 and V2 an ESP32-C6. Do not install V1 firmware on V2.
  • Some V1 firmware features are not in V2 yet. The V1 firmware has a built-in motion light and CO2 warning. The current V2 firmware does not. You build this yourself with automations.

Which Model Should You Choose?

Choose CeilSense Mini if you want presence and light on PoE or USB-C, for example in a hallway, corridor, toilet or utility room, or in a bedroom where you only want light automation.

Choose CeilSense V2 if you want the complete ceiling sensor with CO2, temperature and humidity and three power options, for example in a living room, office or bedroom where air quality matters.

Choose CeilSense Pro if you also want VOC and NOx, optical smoke sensing, a speaker and a microphone.

The Mini and the Pro can be surface-mounted. V2 is recessed only, so it needs a cavity above the ceiling. See the Installation Guide.

Basic and Complete

Older communication speaks of Basic and Complete. CeilSense V2 is now sold as a base plus modules, and Complete means a V2 with the SCD41 module. See Radar and Sensor Modules.

Which One Do You Have?

Start with the product name on your order. If you no longer have it, use this table:

Model How to recognize it
CeilSense V2 Recessed, outer rim Ø 95.5 mm, LED ring shines down. Home Assistant shows LED Ring, Buzzer Test and Air Pressure.
CeilSense V1 Recessed in a 68 mm hole, LED ring shines down, no buzzer. See the V1 documentation.
CeilSense Mini Recessed or surface, outer rim Ø 85.61 mm, no mains connection. Home Assistant shows no Air Pressure.
CeilSense Pro Recessed or surface, outer rim Ø 115 mm, speaker and microphone.

Thread

CeilSense V2 uses an ESP32-C6. This chip has an 802.15.4 radio, but no Thread firmware has been announced for V2. It connects over WiFi or Ethernet.

The same applies to the Mini. The Pro uses an ESP32-S3, which has no Thread radio.
